Bloomington il has one of the city’s oldest movie theaters. The Indiana Theatre opened in 1922. As part of an effort by businessman Harry P. Vanderschmitt to revitalize downtown.
After several years of trouble with the local landlord. The theater was saved from possible closure in 1976. When the Illinois-based Kerasotes Theatres purchased it. In 1995, Kerasotes donated Indiana to the Bloomington Area Arts Council.
The theater is now called the Buskirk-Chumley Theater and is run by BCT Management, Inc. It is now the home of many Bloomington-Normal areas performing arts companies and events.
The theater has seating that is designed to give people an unobstructed view of the stage. It features three main sections that are the orchestra, mezzanine, and balcony seats. The theater also has box seating that offers elevated views of the stage.
